That place is like a refuge for me. I lose myself in the creative work.

I was at my art studio on Sunday to work on a painting I wanted to do for my son.
That place is like a refuge for me. I lose myself in the creative work.
I have always wanted an art studio. When I was younger, there wasn’t time to concentrate on art, but now I have the retirement hours to express myself.
I always considered my art as a hobby, but that has changed. I now consider myself an artist! I want to create something astounding on canvas. I might not always achieve that but I work towards it.
I have always been critical of my work. That’s probably the perfectionist trying to get out.
We all need that however small ability to be someone in our own rite. For me, I have been many people to others. My role has changed throughout my life as I suspect it has in yours too. There’s always a transition happening.
I had wanted to be an artist since I was in grade school. I dabbled in it but it wasn’t until I was almost 80 did I really consider myself one.
We all want to be accomplished at something. It takes years but there’s still time to hit success at whatever talent we have.
I figure if you profess yourself as your talent, you are. When someone asks me what I do, I say I’m a writer and an artist. I do write and I do art. I can refer to myself as each of these creative skills.
We need to recognize the word that defines us. I have been a wife, a mother, a volunteer, a speaker, an organizer, a mentor, a friend, a leader and so much more as I was doing more for others than myself.
I have the opportunity now to do for myself. I’m old and I can do what I like. But even as we are younger, we should allow time in for ourselves and something that is true to our persona.
We don’t do enough of that, unfortunately. The days, months and years disappear.
Here we are in a new year, one month almost gone. What is your personal definition of yourself? Is there a budding skill that’s laying dormant in your life? What’s the spark that you love?
Let it in the minutes of your life. You’ll have the self satisfaction that you’re using a God-given talent. There’s great joy in that.
Most of my life, I have asked myself “what is my destiny?” I finally learned that it was the different phases of my life and how I used the abilities I have.
You know what yours is. Work toward it. By time you’re near 80, you will call yourself something stupendous because you are, in reality, your true self. WOW!
