Jacob Thompson of Grant is currently working on his Eagle Scout project with a little help from a local business owner.

Jacob met with the Grant Council during its October meeting and asked is he could build a pergola in the park across the street from Grant Town Hall. His plan is to build an 8x8 pergola that will provide some shade at the park. Before it could be built, a solid foundation was needed.

Former Grant Councilman and owner of SCS Alabama LLC Shawn Rice donated the concrete and labor to pour a 12x12 slab that the pergola will sit atop. A 5x10 sidewalk was also built. Rice worked for Reed Contracting for 12 years before starting his own business back in July.

“I was more than happy to help out with the project,” Rice said. “I felt like it was a good way to give back to the community. It’s a great project idea and will be a good addition to that park.”
