Beloved Commissioner Passes
R. E. Martin, District 2 Commissioner, passed away last week. Our sincere condolences go out to his family. Our district will miss him and our roads are a testament to his love and dedication for his district. Our hearts are saddened with his passing.
Services for Mr. Martin were at Grassy Mountain Church near his home. Visitation was 12-8 on Friday with the funeral at 1 p.m. last Saturday.
Honeycomb Community Watch met at the Hebron VFD #2 on November 12 with over 25 residents attending. Theresa Zeman opened the meeting. Jan and Hein Paetz, and Lorna and Gene Menzel hosted the meeting. The minutes were approved as submitted by Lorna Menzel. Kerry Aaron gave the treasurer’s report.
Over 148 patrol hours were reported for the past two months. New residents Mark & Bren Mills and Doug & Jaynene Stainbrook were welcomed to the group.
The cookout had a great turnout. They had so many attending they ran out of chairs. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped.
They thanked John and Beth Ann Ziebarth for hosting the event even if he was gone to a golf course instead of attending. Beth Ann did an excellent job filling in for John.
The group cleaned up the triangle at the entrance to the neighborhood. It needed weeding and mulching for the winter. It looks nice.
Anita McBurnett, EMA Director for Marshall County, is coming to look at the open drainage holes. These holes have been a safety concern for the group over several months.
The District 2 commission staff looked at the holes. It was their view that the road shop did not put the holes there for road drainage. Since they were on private property the county cannot fix them. Ms. McBurnett will speak at the next meeting in January.
The group elected Jackie Parker to the Board of Directors for Honeycomb Valley Neighborhood Watch and Residents Association. She replaces outgoing board member Lorna Menzel. Each board member serves a three-year term.
There were no guest speakers at the meeting. The sheriff’s department’s absence was noted.
Angie Patterson has started the Hebron Community Information Board page on Facebook. She posts all the area events and information.
Please be careful using space heaters, fireplaces and fires outside. Fire does not care if it is cold! It still burns.
The Hebron Community Watch will not meet in November and December.
Mark Whitlow, Linda Pellowski, Rachel Williams, and Nancy Bearden celebrated birthdays. Happy birthday!
