Blood Drive

Grace Williams (left) and Hannah Lathem promote the Guntersville Middle Anchor Club's blood drive.

Come support the Guntersville Middle School Anchor club hosted blood drive on Monday, Sept. 24, from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Each year, the GMS Anchor club tries to conduct two blood drives for the school year - one in the fall and one in the spring, in addition to several other community projects. The students learn through hosting these blood drives that there is always a need for blood.

Judy Rhea, who is one of the school club sponsors along with Bridget Morris, said, "Every 2 seconds, someone in the the United States needs blood and only 2 percent of the eligible population are willing to donate their blood."

She also stated that, "The shelf life of blood only lasts for 42 days, and that is why the need is always great." By giving blood, an individual can save up to 3 peoples' lives.

Ms. Rhea stated, "In order for this blood drive to be successful, the Anchor Club Members need the community to come out and support the drive."

GMS Anchor Club officers for the 2018-2019 school year are Grace Williams - president; Cera Fortner - President Elect; Shelby Boggus - Secretary; Hannah Latham - Treasurer; Marlie Rae Kreger - 6th Grade Director; Addie Grace Smith - 7th Grade Director; and  Kelcie Davis - 8th Grade Director.
