Douglas High School senior Jesalyn Pettit has been named the 2019 recipient of the Director’s Award, which is given to the top overall student at Marshall Technical School.

Pettit has attended Marshall Technical School for the past three years as a student in the school’s medical prep program.

Pettit is currently ranked first in her class academically in the 2019 senior class at Douglas High School. During her time in medical prep, she has served in various student leadership positions all three years she has attended Marshall Technical. Pettit has also earned recognition at the HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) State Leadership Conference by receiving the Barbara James Service Award which is based on community service.

She has competed at state HOSA competition for three years and has earned her certification as a CNA. She has also earned her Certified Patient Care Technician (CPCT) certification and has satisfactorily completed her health science internship. Pettit plans to attend Jacksonville State University in the fall to pursue a career as a registered nurse.

Marshall Technical medical prep instructor Suzann Peppers said, “Jesalyn’s work ethic and passion for being a part of our program and one day being a healthcare provider sets her apart. She holds our program close to her heart and goes above and beyond with everything. She is driven to excel in everything she does. Jesalyn is also incredibly well-rounded. It is just who she is as a person. I have no doubt that she will achieve all of her goals and be extremely successful in anything she pursues. She will definitely be missed, but I am very excited for her future.”

Marshall Tecnical Career Tech Director/Principal Sherman Leeth said, “Jesalyn represents everything we aspire our students to be. She has set herself apart not only as a student at Marshall Technical School, but also at Douglas High School. As a student, Jesalyn has excelled in virtually everything she has done. She has been extremely active in her student organization and has been recognized for her community service while also maintaining incredibly high grades. Most importantly, she has an amazing attitude and an incredible work ethic. Jesalyn is willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done which is what we are all about at Marshall Technical School. These attributes will serve her well in life.”
