The call that came in sounded sinister: A ruptured line associated with a gas pump with gasoline potentially pouring into the lake.
The reality of it turned out not to be so bad. It was at Guntersville Boat Mart, behind Fire By The Lake.
“A group of Alabama Marine Patrol troopers were in Fire By The Lake eating and one of them noticed gas coming out the fill hose on the pump,” said Capt. Stewart Mann of the Guntersville Fire Department. “He went and hit the emergency shutoff on the pump. The nozzle was hung up and the switch was off, so I don’t know why it was doing that.”
The Fire Department was called as a precaution.
“We looked and there was no sheen on the water,” Capt. Mann said. “We put a little oil dry in the immediate area and advised them to call a repairman.”
