The Guntersville Elementary School PTO held their annual spring fundraiser last week. The "2021 GES Fun Run: Go for the Gold!" was held at Alumni Field on Friday, April 23.
More than $25,000 was raised over the course of two weeks, in which the kids collected Olympic-themed prizes.
The funds raised will ensure that each classroom at GES will be equipped with a walkie talkie, contributing to a more secure and streamlined school, particularly during power and internet outages. The PTO is also planning to implement PTO Enrichment Days at GES, partnering with businesses in the community to educate students about their line of work through interactive lessons.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic hit, this was the first large event that was held in over a year. Parents were invited, but were asked to sit socially-distanced in the stands. PTO volunteers and several teachers were on hand to keep things running smoothly. Two to three classes participated in the run at a time. Fun was had by all and the GES PTO exceeded their fundraising goal!
