Guntersville City Councilman Phil Kelley enjoys golf and Wednesday was an extra-special day for him.

He got a hole-in-one while playing at Gunters Landing.

It came on Hole #10, a 135 yard par 3. He was using a 6-iron.

This was Kelley's 5th career hole-in-one and his 3rd while playing at Gunters Landing. The other two came on Hole #3.

He was playing with Don Jones, Mike Clower, Johnny Briscoe and Gene Dudley, said club pro Stephen Worthy.

Kelley played down the achievement.

"I don't know that it's that big of a deal," he said. "I've only hit 5 and I've been playing 50 years."

He's been playing at Gunters Landing since 2000. And he came very near making a hole-in-one on the very same hole on Tuesday.

"When we played on Wednesday, I said, 'I'm going to hit the same shot.'"

He did and it went in.

Each of the "witnesses" to the shot live in his district and are his "constituents" as well as his friends.

Kelley usually plays on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The brutal heat may cause him to trim his golfing schedule a bit.

"We've been hitting it, then heading to the shade," he said. "But it still takes a lot out of you."
