Global Aviation Solutions announced plans this week to build hangars at the Guntersville Airport and transfer some of their work from Huntsville to Guntersville.

The company specializes in upgrading and modifying helicopters, said Darrell Kindley, the president and CEO. They’ve been working on the plan to move some of their work to Guntersville for several months.

Guntersville beat out other locations in Texas, Virginia and other towns in Alabama for the facility. Mr. Kindley said their Guntersville Airport facility will include multiple hangers, with the first likely to be completed by early 2017.

It could bring as many as 50 jobs to town.

While their lease contract with the city is yet to be finalized, Mr. Kindley felt confident enough in it to go ahead and announce that they are coming. The City Council met in an executive session without reporters this week to work out details for hangar leases at the airport. Another company is also reported company is also reported to be interested in locating a hangar there.

Mr. Kindley said Global Aviation Solutions last week received a 20-year tax abatement plan from the Guntersville Industrial Board and Marshall County Industrial Board. They have also been approved for an Alabama tax abatement for years 11-20.

Global Aviation Solutions has also signed a contract with the Whitaker Trust for the rights to purchase 16 acres of private property at the airport to use for their future growth and expansion.

The company issued this statement about coming to Guntersville:

Global Aviation Solutions is pleased to announce the selection of Guntersville Municipal Airport – Joe Starnes Field in Guntersville as the site for its new aircraft maintenance and operations facility. The new facility will serve as the primary location for fixed and rotary wing aircraft modifications and upgrades.

The operations facility will include multiple hangers and be built throughout two phases. Once the lease agreement is finalized with the City of Guntersville, construction will begin immediately. The first hanger is scheduled to be completed by early 2017 and could bring up to 50 jobs to the Marshall County/Guntersville community.

“Global Aviation Solutions is very pleased to build our new operations facility at the Guntersville Municipal Airport in Marshall County,” said Global Aviation Solutions President and CEO Darrell Kindley. “After a long 10 months of evaluating different locations in Texas, Virginia and various sites across Alabama, the Guntersville site was selected based upon its location, new runway and space for additional growth.

“It has been a pleasure working with the city of Guntersville and the Marshall County Economic Development Council in making this decision. Everyone involved worked very hard to ensure we selected Alabama and the Guntersville Municipal Airport to build our new facility,” Mr. Kindley said.
