The Guntersville Swim Team had 52 swimmers who participated in the ARPA District 2 Swim Meet in Cullman on July 12 & 13.
Forty of those Aquacats made the qualification for state and are swimming in the ARPA State Swim Championship Meet this weekend in Opelika. To make it to state, relay teams must finish in the top 9 and individuals must finish in the top 4 to automatically qualify or finish in the top 16 with the state qualifying time for that event.
At District, Gunersville had 3 individuals (some in multiple events) and 2 relays who medaled. Mark Payne swept his events and got 1st in the 50 Breast, the 50 Free and the 100 IM for the 15-18 Boys. William Wharton got 2nd in the 50 Breast and 3rd in the 50 Back for the 8 & Under Boys. Camden Ellis got 3rd in the 100 Free for the 11 & 12 Boys.
The 8 & Under Medley Relay team of Michael Alred, Cole Everett, William Wharton, and Ryker Wood placed 3rd. The 6 & Under Freestyle Relay team of Knox Everett, Finn Flanagan, Jon Kirk Flanagan, and Grayson Wood also placed 3rd. GST had another 6 & Under Freestyle Relay that also qualified for state.
All forty swimmers will be participating in at least one relay. Relay events are the very first event each day. Fourteen Aquacats qualified individually in at least one event: Landry Griep, Addison Hammond, Ella Milligan, Addie Grace Smith, Madeleine Wharton, Taylor Cooper, Camden Ellis, Jackson Ellis, Jon Kirk Flanagan, Mark Payne, William Wharton, Grayson Wood, Ryker Wood, and Kyle Zeisset.
Four of those swimmers, Addie Grace, Camden, Mark, and Kyle qualified in all 3 individual events they swam at District.
