New Douglas varsity boys basketball coach Skylar Baugh wasn’t hired until late May. By AHSAA rules, high school teams must do much of their work during the month of June.

“It took a little work, but we were able to put together a nice schedule for June,” Baugh said. He said Brett Self, the coach who departed Douglas from Guntersville, gave him great help in setting up several play dates.

“We finished up June with a camp at Birmingham-Southern,” Baugh said.

He said the team was very competitive in all its outtings, which was nice to see.

“We have 3 returning seniors and they will all be starters,” Baugh said. “We have one freshman, 3 sophomores and 2 juniors for 9 players total.”

The JV team has 10.

With only 9 players on the team, everyone is expected to play a role. All rotated in during June work and saw playing time.

For the rest of the summer, the Douglas gym will be open 2 days a week for the team to come in and work on their own, but there will be no organized activities.
