A 2008 graduate of Douglas High School, Skylar Baugh has been tapped to be the next varsity boys basketball coach for the Eagles.
He was approved at the County School Board meeting last Thursday night.
“This is just a dream,” Baugh said. “I’ve always dreamed of being able to come back home and actually be the coach at Douglas. It’s a lifelong dream, and I just hope that I can continue what Coach Brett Self has left behind."
Self left Douglas to become the new head boys basketball coach at Guntersville High.
Baugh, 29, has been the Boaz High School JV girls head coach the last 5 seasons.
He was part of the Eagle team that finished as the 2007 state runner-up. He'd like to again lead Douglas that deep in the playoffs. He said for anyone who has been to the finals, "it eats at you to want to get back."
Baugh will teach physical education at Douglas High School. He taught the same subject at Boaz Intermediate School.
Douglas competes in Class 5A, Area 13 against Boaz, Crossville and Sardis. The Eagles’ 2018-19 season ended with a loss to host Boaz in the 5A, Area 13 tournament semifinals
