Guntersville High's boys basketball team won a pair of games before the Thanksgiving break to make their record 2-1 on the season.

They got a later-than-expected start on the season due to Guntersville's playoff run in football.

GHS 68, Oneonta 59

The Oneonta win came in the Scottsboro Thanksgiving Classic

Cooper Davidson scored 19 points, Campbell Leach 16 and Brandon Fussell 12.

GHS 97, Ft Payne 80

Guntersville was just 3 points shy of hitting the century mark in a win over Ft. Payne.

Brandon Fussell led the Wildcats with 26 points. Cooper Davidson added 24 and Campbell Leach 19.

For Ft. Payne, Hendricks scored 21 and Hightower 23.

"We were really happy to go into the Thanksgiving break 2-1 after getting a late start," Coach Brett Self said. "The guys have worked really hard in a short time. These are two quality wins over quality opponents.

"We have a lot to improve on and get better. This was a well needed break. We have several guys who need the break to rest and heal up and get back on the floor," Self continued.

He said the Wildcats are excited to be opening area play this week.
