Business Alabama named Guntersville’s Katie Boggus one of Alabama’s Top 23 Women in Tech earlier this week. The list was released on Wednesday, May 15, to celebrate “23 women in Tech in 2023, featuring women across the state who are working for companies large and small, some that they founded, and recognized by others for their excellence in the technology sector.”
Boggus, who holds a degree in computer science from Jacksonville State University, is the corporate infrastructure administrator at PCH Hotels and Resorts, a hotel management company that manages world-class hotels, many of which are located along the famed Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. She manages the network and enterprise systems across the portfolio, ensuring the proper infrastructure is in place to enhance the quality of the overall guest experience.
Boggus called the recognition an “unbelievable honor.” She found it so unbelievable, in fact, that the magazine tried contacting her for two weeks before she stopped deleting what she thought were scam emails. Such is the nature of the job, though, and a testament to how serious she takes her work.
“Our department sends phishing emails monthly,” she explained. “It’s meant to keep people on their toes. If you don’t know the sender, aren’t expecting the email, or it seems too good to be true, then don’t open the email.”
For Boggus, all of the above rang true until she finally realized the email from Alabama Business was a legitimate one.
Katie said it was a “really big honor” for her.
Fittingly, the announcement came on Boggus’ 18-year anniversary at PCH Hotels and Resorts, an “incredible company” she said allows her to combine a passion for both technology and hospitality.
Boggus said her love for technology stemmed from a programming class she took in high school.
“It’s funny how an after-school computer programming class sparked an interest that has turned into an amazing career,” she said.
Boggus lives in Guntersville with her husband, Ryan, and two girls, Dowd and Quinn.
Business Alabama also named Guntersville native Jacqueline Chandler as a Top 23 Women in Tech. Chandler works with the Birmingham Business Alliance, focusing on attracting new businesses in the knowledge-based economy and high-tech manufacturing operations to the Greater Birmingham Region.
