Mr. Augustus “Buddy” Alred, age 70, of Guntersville, passed away Sunday May 20, 2019, at Marshall Medical Center North.
Buddy was preceded in death by his father, Augustus Alred Jr.; his mother, Ludell Higgins Alred; a sister, Mary White; and a grandson, Christopher Alred.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sheila Alred; two sons, Alan Alred (Nicole), who is retired from the Army of 20 years and now the manager of Guntersville Marina; Jon Alred (Courtney) who is a police officer in Gadsden and serves as a Sgt. Major in the National Guard; grandchildren, Allison Alred, Kenneth, Ben, Leah Alred, Evey Alred, Calvin Alred and Draven Donnelly; a great grandchild, Tripp Alred; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Buddy was well known for his brite work and craftmanship on boats. He customized numerous boats, as well as sold boats to many satisfied customers throughout the years. He owned and operated Harbor House restaurant for 17 years as well as well as owning and managing the Guntersville Marina for 42 years. Buddy achieved a double major in chemistry and mathematics from Jacksonville State.
He had a love for travel, and being on the water on his yacht, the North Star.
Buddy had numerous hobbies which included being an avid member of SERMA (Suck Egg Road Model Airplanes) for several years, but the most enjoyable hobby Buddy enjoyed was his love for in-scale trains, which he spent endless hours working on.
Buddy devoted 8 years of his life to his country by serving in the National Guard.
He was very proud of his children who followed in his footsteps of serving their country.
Buddy will be missed by all who ever came in contact with and got to know him. He truly left his mark on Marshall County and especially his loving family, friends, and neighbors.
