Moody Brews Coffee and Lounge is coming to downtown Guntersville soon. Local couple Rhea Krueger and Dustin Huetinck are planning to open the new coffee shop by December in the old Jamoka’s location, barring any renovation setbacks.
Opening a coffee shop was something Krueger, an English professor at Snead State Community College, and Huetinck, who left his job in Pell City to work full time at Moody Brews, had been wanting to do, but maybe a bit further down the road.
“The timing was unexpected because we were in the process of dreaming it up,” Krueger said. “But with Jamoka’s closing… The next thing we know, we’re leasing and opening a shop.”
While the timing might not have gone according to plan, the couple is “very excited” to open, particularly in the downtown area of Guntersville.
“Downtown should not be without a coffee shop,” Krueger said. “Anytime I’m traveling, I look for the little independent coffee shop to go to. It’s a need for sure.”
The owners have already been met with several issues while getting the shop ready, but they, along with the building owner, are addressing them as they come.
“We’re basically having to take it one day at a time,” Krueger said. “What could have been a quicker job is taking a little longer, but we want to do it right. We want it to look nice when we open.”
Moody Brews will initially be a family operation, with only Krueger, her two daughters, and Huetinck running the business when it first opens. They will begin hiring once they get comfortable with the process and see when help is most needed. For now, they plan to be open every day except Sunday, though they have not made any set hours yet. Along with coffee, the couple plans to offer simple food like pastries and bagels.
