The longtime general manager of an electric co-op with a big presence in Marshall County has agreed to plead guilty in federal court to diverting $200,000 worth of co-op funds to a company that then paid him $135,000.

Bruce Purdy, general manager of North Alabama Electric, is at the center of the case. North Alabama Electric is based in Stevenson in Jackson County, but its territory includes just about all of northern Marshall County. It runs from the Guntersville river bridge to Honeycomb and includes Buck Island, Conners Island, Grant and more.
