School systems employ so many people that there are always people coming and going. And there are always a few last minute personnel items to approve right before the start of school.

School starts in the Schools of Guntersville system on Aug. 12.

These personnel actions were approved at Monday night’s meeting of the City School Board:

Resignations

Aubrey Ross, resigned her position as an Instructional Aide at Guntersville Elementary School, effective immediately.

Haley Harville-York, resigned her position as STEM Teacher at Guntersville High School, effective immediately.

Leave of Absence

Meredith Washburn, Cherokee 3rd grade teacher, received a medical leave of absence in accordance with the FMLA Leave Act, beginning on August 3, 2020.

Employment

Lindsey Strickland, hired as an instructional aide for the Schools of Guntersville , for the FY 2020-2021 school year.

Jacob Holland, hired as an 8th grade social science teacher at Guntersville Middle School, for the 2020-2021 school year.

Jake Wisener, hired as a contract part-time grounds maintenance employee, for the 2020-2021 school year.

Teaching Assignment 

Kenny Hill, hired as a science teacher at Guntersville High School for the 2020-2021 school year, to replace Haley Harville-York. He was hired earlier this year as the new Guntersville girls varsity basketball coach.

Summer Contracts for Services

Allison Carr-Smith, contracted to provide Special Education Referral Evaluations and Related Services , to work up to 30 hours, beginning July 14, 2020 through approximately July 31, 2020, paid from local funds.

Julie Davis, contracted to provide Special Education Referral Evaluations and Related Services, to work up to 15 hours, beginning July 20, 2020 through approximately July 31, 2020, paid from local funds.

Christy Smith, contracted to provide Special Education Referral Evaluations and Related Services , to work up to 30 hours, beginning July 14, 2020 through approximately July 31, 2020, paid from local funds.

Ashley McKenzie, contracted to provide Instructional Support Services for the Virtual Literacy Act Summer Program and After-School Tutoring between August and December 2020, for up to (70) hours. Teachers will provide scientific based reading instruction and intervention services, paid from Federal Funds.

Contract for Services

April Mayo, a retired teacher, contracted to provide instructional support services, per the Literacy Act, for up to 19 hours per week at Cherokee Elementary. The CARES ACT Grant will be the funding source.

Kendall Ainsworth, contracted as a Part-time Clerical Aide at Cherokee Elementary, for up to 10 hours per week, or as needed. The general fund will be the funding source.

Aimee Puckett, contracted as a Part-time Clerical Aide at Guntersville Elementary, for up to 10 hours per week, or as needed. The general fund will be the funding source.

Extended Adventures

The Extended Adventures after school program will continue despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Community Education director Julia Covington said. She said they were able to retain all personnel who’d worked in the program previously except the director, but she said new site director Chandler Tarvin is terrific and will do a good job with the program.

Charles Roe, assigned as the Middle School Girls Basketball 8th Grade Head Coaching position, for the 2020-2021 school year.

Jordan Shelton, assigned as the Middle School Boys Basketball 7th Grade Head Coach , for the 2020-2021 school year.

Jacob Holland, assigned as the JV Girls Basketball Head Coach, for the FY 2020-2021 school year.

Brad Lett, assigned as an Assistant Football Coach, for the FY 2020-2021 school year.

Nahanna Corbin Dee, assigned the GHS STEM Supplement for her role as a STEM Teacher/Sponsor, for the 2020-2021 school year.

Other

On the recommendation of Supt. Brett Stanton, a proposal to transfer social studies teacher Ryan Thomas from Guntersville High to Guntersville Middle was withdrawn. Coach Thomas had spoken to the Board at an earlier meeting opposing the transfer. A teaching position opened up at the high school that will allow him to stay there.

Volunteer Coaches

Two volunteer coaches were approved:

John Isom was named a Volunteer Assistant Football Coach for the 2020-2021 school year.

Jake Wisener was named a Volunteer Assistant Football Coach for the 2020-2021 School year.
