The DAR varsity girls came up short in their comeback bid falling to the North Jackson Chiefs 61-51 in the Class 4A Area 14 basketball tournament held at North Jackson.

The DAR varsity boys won their 2nd consecutive area championship in dominating fashion with a 77-59 victory over the Chiefs.

The Lady Patriots didn't get off to a good start in the championship game.

North Jackson led at all the breaks. Quarter scores were 11-6; 32-20 and 43-33. DAR fell behind by 17 points in the 2nd quarter before starting a comeback.

The Patriots turned up the pressure in the 2nd half and kept chipping away at the North Jackson lead. Tori Nickell's layup with 1:42 remaining in the game cut the deficit to four at 53-49. That was as close as they would get as the Chiefs finished the game on an 8-2 run.

Brianna Bolt scored 20 points and Kassidy Allen added 18 to lead DAR. Bolt, Nickell and Ivy Carmack were named to the All Area team based on their play in four regular season area games.

The Lady Patriots were scheduled to play at Oneonta in a Northeast Sub-regional game Monday night with a trip to regionals on the line. North Jackson was scheduled to host Fairview Monday night as well.

After leading 10-7 at the end of the opening quarter, the Patriots took control to lead 31-18 at the half. DAR blew it open in the 3rd to take a 49-26 lead at the end of three.

The Patriots were led by Landen Harbin with 31 points followed by T.J. Leonard with 14 and Koltyn Harbin with 13.

L. Harbin, K. Harbin and Leonard were joined by Howie Boxley on the All Area team for their performances in the regular season area games.

The win set up a rematch of last year's epic contest with Good Hope. DAR won that game 64-62 to earn a trip to the regional tournament. The Patriots looked to repeat as they were scheduled to host Good Hope Tuesday night in a sub-regional game in Grant. North Jackson was scheduled to travel to Oneonta Tuesday night.
