Chris Lane Camp

Pro angler Chris Lane will host his 14th annual kids fishing camp at Bucky Howe Park in Guntersville on May 29.

Professional angler Chris Lane along with Foodland in Guntersville and the Major League Fishing Anglers Association (MLFAA) are getting ready to host a big day of fishing and fun on Lake Guntersville.

This year, the Restock Lake Guntersville event will be held on Saturday, May 29, at Bucky Howe Park along with the annual Chris Lane Kids Camp beginning at 9 a.m.

The kids’ event will feature giveaways, a fishing rodeo and kids will get a chance to release bass fingerlings into the lake.

“We’re still going to have some COVID protocols in place so the kids won’t get to interact with the pros like they did in years past,” Lane said. “It’s still going to be a great event for the family with food, fishing and fun. We’re very excited about the restocking event as well. This is going to teach children about the importance of conservation and how to maintain this amazing lake we all get to enjoy.”

The fingerlings going into the lake on May 29 are a strand of Florida bass. Lane also said brand new Bass Pro fishing reels and rods will be given away along with several other prizes.

The Foodland fishing tournament will be held on May 29 as well beginning at 5:45 a.m. with a launch from Bucky Howe Park. The weigh-in for the tournament will begin at 1:30 p.m. at Bucky Howe Park and winners will be announced from that time until 5 p.m.

“Like we say every year, this is an event to put fishing in the hands of children,” Lane said. “We’re excited to hold this event again this year and look forward to seeing everyone who comes out. I promise it’s going to be a fun day for everyone.”

Concert to Follow

The MLFAA isn’t just hosting a kid’s fish camp and tournament this year. Wes Long, Executive Director of MLFAA, said this year they’re looking to create an event to kick off the summer.

“Once everything is finished up at Bucky Howe Park, the festivities will move to the Sand Mountain Amphitheater in Albertville,” he said. “We’ve got a very special concert planned with Tracy Lawrence as the headliner. It’s going to be a great way for people in Marshall County to kick off the summer.”

The concert will start at 6 p.m. with the Joe Cagle Band followed by Scooter Brown Band. Tracy Lawrence will take the stage around 8:30 p.m.

Tickets for the concert can be purchased at
