State Park Flood

The State Park campground suffered a flash flood Sunday. Park Supt. Michael Jeffreys said he'd never seen water come up so fast in his 20 years of working in the park.

They were kayaking in the ditches in the campground at Lake Guntersville State Park Sunday morning. And at the lodge, water was pouring from the roof into the lower level of the hotel, flooding several rooms.

A man and woman camping in the park tried to fetch an empty kayak floating in a ditch and suffered minor injuries. A retired Hanceville police officer was credited with pulling them to safety.
