Former Guntersville football great Lee Menefee has been named the new linebackers coach for Birmingham-Southern College. He graduated in the spring from Sewanee College, where he played 4 years. Sewanee and Birmingham-Southern are conference rivals.

In his senior season, Menefee had 90 tackles. He finished with 244 career tackles, averaging 6.3 per game. The was a 2-time All-County player at Guntersville High. and made All-State his senior year, helping the Wildcats reach the 5A quarterfinals.

Birmingham-Southern opens its season Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. Their home opener is Sept. 14 vs. Huntingdon.

The NCAA Division III Panthers finished 6-4 last season, including a 4-4 mark in the Southern Athletic Association.
