One of the first duties of new Douglas High School principal Patrick Smith will be to hire a new football coach.

Douglas Coach Bryan “Bubba” Jennings resigned his position last week with no comment as to why.

Jennings was hired in 2017 to succeed Brad Pounds, who coached a single season following Brian Knapp’s 7-year run as the Eagles’ coach.

Douglas went 1-19 over 2 seasons under Jennings. They recently defeated Asbury 28-0 in a spring game.

Jennings went 44-42 over 7 seasons at Susan Moore and won region championships there twice.

Smith said they plan to post the coaching position immediately.

“Obviously, we are going to do everything possible to find the very best candidate for the job and get him in place as soon as possible,” Smith said.
