Socrates once wrote, "The secret of change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new."
That sums up much of what is going on at Guntersville High School. The process of "building the new" has been marching forward since the beginning of June, and it is incredible to see the transformation that has taken place on the campus.
From the demolition of some treasured spaces to the construction of new parking spaces, we are witnessing remarkable changes to our campus appearance. That will become even more evident over the coming months as the construction of the new high school building begins to take shape.
I would like to take a few moments just to give you a quick update on some important dates and times for the community to consider, and I will also ask for your help as we navigate some transitions that change will bring to GHS over the next few years.
Our students will be coming this week to pick up schedules, obtain their Chromebooks, pay fees, take class pictures, and hopefully obtain their parking passes for the new school year. Parking is going to be at a premium this year, and it will be one of the early challenges we will face. We are blessed to have the new parking space thanks to the work of the City of Guntersville along with the Board of Education.
The parking behind the home football bleachers has been expanded and improved. We will have a visitors' parking area close to the front door of the campus, but we do ask for patience as we see how the flow of traffic will work over the first few days of school.
We are hoping to pass along information soon about a new digital ticketing app that we will use for all of our athletic events along with some other applications. We will also soon introduce you to some of the new faces at Guntersville High School this year.
We are excited about working with our students and community to provide the best possible education that we can. Our teachers report to work on August 1, and students report to campus on August 5.
In future articles, I will share some specific changes that will impact us all on August 5 as it relates to the bell schedule and new class offerings.
