New Guntersville High girls basketball coach Kenny Hill has been working with the Lady Wildcats 4 days a week for about the last 3 weeks.
But they’re not putting everything in that they would normally install in the summer.
“We can’t really work on defense and guarding people,” Coach Hill said. The social distancing requirements of this summer’s off-season program is the reason.
“We’re running some drills and things like that,” Coach Hill said.
The girls are playing some games, Coach Hill said, but it’s not officially sanctioned. That’s being done at Guntersville’s Sure Shot Academy, he said, and it is a non-school affiliated summer league.
“I can’t coach them,” he said. “But a parent can.”
When we visited the GHS gym this week, it was essentially just a shoot-around, with the girls spread around the gym using every goal and each with her own ball.
If there is a bright spot, Coach Hill said, it is that the girls are buying in to what he is trying to teach and that they are eager to get in the gym.
“The bright spot is, if I called a practice at 1 a.m., these girls would be here,” he said
