A two-vehicle crash on Friday, June 7, claimed the lives of a Merrell Mountain couple, Alabama state troopers said. 

John and Julie Bolton were killed when the 2010 Lincoln MKZ he was driving collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Express van. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet van was injured and transported to a local area hospital. The crash occurred on U.S. 72 four miles east of Huntsville at the intersection of Dug Hill Road. 

Julie, 61, was remembered as a loving mother and homemaker who enjoyed preparing meals for her family around holidays. She was a DAR graduate.

She and John had been married more than 40 years.

John, 67, was recalled as an outdoorsman who loves pending time on his family farm. He was a Guntersville High graduate. He was retired from Huntsville Utilities after 23 years of work as a water treatment plant operator.

A double funeral will be today, Wednesday, at 3 p.m. at New Hope Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Walker Cemetery at Hebron, with a reception afterwards at the Hebron Community Center.
