Greg Guffey finished his journey on this earth at his home in Huntsville on Friday afternoon, March 3, 2023. He was 63 years old.
William Gregory Guffey was born on February 22, 1960, to James Earl & Jane Lamb Guffey at the old Guntersville Hospital. He began his walk with the Lord in Huntsville 32 years ago.
Oak Grove Holiness Church was his home and sanctuary for over 31 years. He loved and was blessed to be loved by the members of not only Oak Grove Holiness Church but by so many members of many churches which he loved to visit.
Greg is survived by his wife, Diane Guffey; son, Gregory Blake Guffey; and grand fur-baby, Penny; father, James Earl Guffey; sister, Marilyn Turner (Tim); very special aunt, Willene Duvall; parents by marriage, Joe M. & Dollie Lawrence; brother by marriage, Carl Lawrence (Heatherly); nieces and nephews, Matthew Turner (Liz), Meghan Mosley (Rick), Jessie Lawrence (Doug), Joey Lawrence, Jake Lawrence (Jacie), Logan Stines, and Emily Stines; cousins, Jeri Brown (Mike), Cindy Meeks (Lance), Brad Duvall (Ann Marie), Jan Johnson (Dennis), and Kay Howard (John).
He was reunited with his mother, Jane Guffey, his beloved fur-baby, Maggie, and his many other loved ones and friends gone before.
During his lifetime he was blessed to cross paths with a few who became true brothers: Benji Willmon, Nicky Willmon, Perry Stapler, Tim Byrum, Freddy Killen, and the late Jamey Atchley. Greg will be greatly missed by many. When someone in his family needed help, Greg was often the first person they would call, and he never turned down the opportunity to help them in any way that he could.
He loved his friends and his Church family deeply, and he took comfort in knowing how much they loved him. Greg’s career with Leidos, SAIC and other contractors in support of SMDC and NASA afforded him lifelong friendships for which he was so grateful. He enjoyed traveling and watching Alabama football with his Dad.
Aside from serving the Lord, he was never more at peace than sitting on his back porch with Diane and Blake, with his precious baby girls in his lap. He was deeply loved and will be missed every single day until we meet him again.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Oak Grove Holiness Church at 1 p.m. Rev. Ollie Taylor, Rev. Nicky Willmon, and Rev. Alton Willmon will officiate. Pallbearers will be Matthew Turner, Joey Lawrence, Jake Lawrence, Rick Mosley, Andy Stapler, Isaac Willmon, and Luke Willmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Alton Willmon, Rev. Shirley Byrum, and all the brothers and sisters of Oak Grove Holiness Church.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 10, 2023 at Grant Memorial Chapel from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Oak Grove Holiness Church from noon until 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Gunter Mountain Memory Gardens.
