The Marshall County Drug Enforcement Unit has charged Henry Lewis "Coach" Howell Jr. with trafficking in fentanyl and other drug charges.
"On Aug. 2, we executed a search warrant at Howell's residence, located at 102 Harbour Street, Albertville," Drug Unit commander John Siggers said. "Agents recovered approximately 12 grams of fentanyl, one pound of marijuana and 6 grams of cocaine as well as 3 handguns and a shotgun."
Siggers said there was also a child in the room that the drugs were recovered in.
Howell was charged with trafficking fentanyl, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine and hydrocodone) and chemical endangerment of a child.
He was taken to the county jail, where his bond was initially set at $1 million but later reduced to $150,000, Siggers said. He posted the lower bond amount.
Howell was a talented, well-known Guntersville High basketball player in the 1980s.
