Guntersville High School senior Evan Hill is a 2023 National Merit Semifinalist. The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. Approximately 1.5 million high school students enter the program each year.
Evan qualified earlier this school year for the National Merit Scholarship Program by scoring high enough on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which he took last year as a junior. He scored 1460 out of a total 1520 total points. The range for each section was 8-38; Evan scored a 37 in reading, a 38 in writing and language, and a 35.5 in math. His semifinalist qualification means he scored higher on his PSAT than most students in Alabama.
