Guntersville Lake Hydrofest will be this summer’s biggest event at the lake, with three classes of hydroplanes, racing at speeds of up to 200 mph, according to Marshall County Tourism & Sports.

The 2022 event, set for June 25-26, also will celebrate the 60th anniversary of Roy Duby setting the World Speed Record of 200.419 MPH at Lake Guntersville in 1962.

HydroFest will take place in Browns Creek along Sunset Drive from the Guntersville Recreation Center to the Guntersville Water Treatment Plant with the site offering prime spectator viewing. The viewing area will be 1.5 miles of shoreline. Marshall County Tourism & Sports expects the 2-day racing event to attract thousands of visitors to the community. This weekend will feature the H1 Unlimiteds, static displays, food vendors and a free kids zone.

Event organizers are excited to announce the return of the Grand Prix America hydros and the addition of the Pro-Lite 5 Litre hydros. The Grand Prix’s raced Lake Guntersville in 2018 and 2019 and were a crowd favorite from the loud 1500 horsepower blown V-8 motors. The E 350 hydroplanes (5 Litre boats) race to speeds of 115 mph, powered by mildly modified marine-based stock 305 Chevrolet and 302 Ford V-8 engines (285 horsepower).

The event organizers are also excited to announce the Miss U.S. U-36 will be making her grand appearance at the 2022 race as well. The Miss U.S. is an original restored 1957 fully operational Unlimited Hydroplane having V12 Allison power. This boat is similar to the boat Roy Duby drove to break the world record in 1962.

“Our race for 2022 will celebrate several decades of hydroplanes and the impact our water has had on the sport of boat racing,” said Philip Mosley, chairman for the 2022 Guntersville Lake HydroFest Planning Committee. “With three racing classes as well as the appearance of a few vintage craft, this event will be one of our best.”

Tickets will go on sale April 1, 2022. Ticket pricing starts at $15 for a day pass and $20 for a weekend pass. The Ultimate Weekend pass will give access to both days of the event and access to see the pits at any time during the race weekend. Club Level tickets will be available for $120. Club Level includes access into a large, private tented area for on-the-water viewing at the start/finish line and free lunch and nonalcoholic beverages. Free transportation to see the boats at any time throughout the two days of racing is also included. And as a special for the 2022 race, you get a commemorative cup to mark the 60th anniversary of the world speed record by Roy Duby.

For the perfect tailgate experience, reserve a personal tent space for HydroFest 2022. The race will continue to have Premium Tent Spaces for $75. These spaces are on the water for great views of the races in Zone 1. Regular tent spaces are also available for $50 and are not on the water except in Zone 3. Each space will be 15X15 ft. Pop up tents only. No overnight camping within the venue.
