Last week was All-Star Sports Week in Montgomery, when the best athletes from around the state are invited by the Alabama High School Athletic Association to participate in North-South All Star Games.

Marshall County is well represented on the North team.

Lauren Mark of Guntersville High is on the North volleyball team, while Sam Moultrie will be running on the North cross country team.

Josh Mangaris of GHS is on the boys soccer team.

Brayden Lewis of DAR is on the North football team as is Christian Collins of Boaz.

Other local athletes participating include:

Girls Soccer – Alex Murray, Arab

Baseball – William Hudson, Arab

Girls Tennis – Jacquelyn Nieto, A’ville

Girls Golf – Hannah Sanders, A’ville

Boys Basketball — Dane Harding, A’ville

Volleyball — Grace Kelley, A’ville.

All-Star Sports Week was introduced in 1997 as part of the AHSAA’s annual Summer Conference. Prior to that time, only football and boys’ basketball all-star games were played. The soccer competition was added to the All-Star Sports Week along with girls’ basketball, volleyball and softball as the all-star game opportunities over the next few years. Cross country competition was added in 2016.
