Boaz Parks & Rec will celebrate 5 years of the Skinny Turkey 5K/10K Race this November.Â
Sponsored by Peoples Independent Bank, the 5th Annual Skinny Turkey 5K/10K Race will be November 19. Proceeds from the event will benefit Second Chance Shelter.
The certified courses will run through Snead State Community College, the Boaz Sportsplex, and Boaz Elementary School on all paved roads with some small hills.
The 5K and 10K will begin and end at the Boaz Neighborhood Center (314 N King St., Boaz, AL 35957). The 10K will begin at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K will begin at 8:10 a.m.
Finisher medals will be given out at the finish line and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group (male and female) will receive prizes at the awards ceremony.
There will be no refunds; the race will be held rain or shine!
Packet pick up will be the week of the race as well as race day morning. Packet pick-up sites are:
* Wednesday, November 16, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m., Fleet Feet of Huntsville.
* Thursday, November 17, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Boaz Neighborhood Center.
* Friday, November 18, 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Boaz Neighborhood Center.
Age groups are 12 & under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 & over
"Sleep-in registration: is available for those interested in supporting Second Chance Shelter without participating in the race.
Second Chance Shelter is a non-profit, no-kill dog shelter that saves and houses dogs until they are adopted to their forever home. Last year, the shelter received around $7,600 in funds raised through the Skinny Turkey 5K/10K Race.
