Motorcycle Catches Fire on Warrenton Bridge

An accident on the Warrenton Causeway caused a motorcycle to erupt in a fireball shortly before the city's fireworks celebration on the 4th of July.

A serious accident took place on the Warrenton Causeway Thursday evening about the same time crowds were pouring into Guntersville for the annual 4th of July fireworks celebration over the lake.

A car hit a motorcycle and the motorcycle erupted into a ball of fire. It was quite dramatic. People had already started gathering at Civitan Park for the fireworks show and could see the flames and smoke from across the lake.

Lt. Josh Case of the Guntersville Police Department said the wreck took place when David Bush turned onto Highway 69 traveling the wrong way. He hit Mitchel Lewis head on in the collision. Lewis was driving the motorcycle that caught on fire following the impact.

Case said that criminal charges are possible.

Lewis was transported to Huntsville Hospital where, at the time, he was listed in critical but stable condition.

The Guntersville Police Department, Guntersville Fire and Rescue, Marshall County Sheriff's Office, Air Evac, and Marshall Medical Ambulance assisted in the response to the accident.
