Betty Holsonback

Betty Holsonback was pulling up some old carpeting and found these advertising placards between the carpet and the padding.

You never know what you’re going to find when you start remodeling a house. Even a minor renovation such as pulling up old carpet to put in new can turn up something unexpected.

Such was the case the other day when Betty Holsonback pulled up some old carpet in a rental house she owns on Sand Mountain. Between the padding and the carpet were some old placards advertising Armstrong flooring. She was surprised to say the least.

“People used to put old newspapers and things under the flooring or somewhere else in the house,” she said. “So it’s not that uncommon.”

One of the ads was for a vinyl flooring that looked like brick.

“I actually had some of that flooring once,” Betty said.

Betty lives on the top of the mountain in Guntersville.
