Big Stripe

Kevin Thompson caught this 21-pound striped bass below Guntersville Dam recently. State fisheries biologists say the fish are reproducing naturally there. They've also stocked more than 100,000 hybrid bass, which are just as much fun as the pure stripers although they don't get quite as large.

The state stopped stocking the big saltwater stripes below Guntersville Dam several years ago. But there are still some good ones around.

Kevin Thompson caught a 21-pounder down there the other day. And he said he’s seen a lot of smaller ones in the area.
