Randall Dowdy

Randall Dowdy

William Randall Dowdy Sr., 78, of Guntersville passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on June 29, 2019.

Affectionately known to many as “R.D.”, Randall was a life-long resident of Guntersville, Alabama, and very proud to have been raised in the part of town known as the Cotton Mill Village. He worked in the oil industry prior to owning his own business, Randall Dowdy Motors, where he specialized in the sale of cars, RVs, and boats before retiring in 2010.

In his spare time, Randall was known for his love of hunting, fishing, playing pool, traveling the country, bluegrass music, NASCAR, and Alabama football. He was a life member of the Alabama Wildlife Federation and one of his great accomplishments was winning the AWF Wild Game state cookoff with his team “The Cajun Connection” in 2000.

Randall attended Clear Springs Baptist Church and became baptized in 2014. Always one to lend a helping hand, Randall was a kindhearted man with a willingness to assist anyone in need. His generosity, good humor, and ability to live life to its fullest will be genuinely missed by all that knew and loved him dearly.

He is survived by his sons, William Randall Dowdy Jr. and Michael Isbell-Dowdy; daughters, Leah Love and Shelby Dowdy (Jake); three granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren, beloved former wife Ellen Dowdy; and brothers Ralph (Ann) and Jack Dowdy (Gerda).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Jim Dowdy, and daughter Deborah Leigh Dowdy.

Memorial services were held at Guntersville Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, July 2, at 11 a,m. Interment was at Crestview Cemetery.

Randall’s loved ones would like to extend heartfelt appreciation to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice for their superior care in his last days. The family suggests memorials be made to Shepherd’s Cove Hospice or the Alabama Wildlife Federation.”
