To the Advertiser-Gleam:
Judge Andrea LeCroy continues to take her job seriously. Some people may have had reservations about her qualifications since she was not a lawyer. I think that is a plus.
She said before the election, and continues to show, a law degree is not the driving factor for serving as a Probate Judge. Her willingness to review and improve all aspects of the Probate Judge’s areas of responsibility are.
Updating all of the polling places to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) is no small task. It should have been done 20 years ago but things around here do not change easily. I am sure some of the upgrades have ruffled feathers but she has the law on her side. I commend her.
I hope her next efforts include upgrading the Marshall County Courthouses to the same ADA standards. Oh sure, there are ADA signs and things around the Courthouse but that does not mean they are compliant.
Every office that is used by the public should be compliant. This includes replacing door knobs with door handles. The restrooms generally meet ADA standards but with the door knobs, many handicapped people cannot get inside to use them.
There are other problems including the handicap parking not being near the handicap entrance and that entrance closing at 2 p.m. and other things. I know the Judge cannot change those things. She could get the Commission to at least change the doorknob to her office area to make it handicap accessible and show everyone she is there to serve all of the people of Marshall County.
