A social media dispute between City Councilman Sanchez Watkins and some other people reared its head at last Monday night’s City Council meeting.

The official meeting had just been adjourned when Jeff Helms addressed the Council. He said Watkins and Dodi Rains, who was also present, had been at odds on Facebook.

Helms also said Watkins had said some things on Facebook he shouldn’t have.

“We’re here to bring awareness to this,” Helms said. He said he had friends from Arizona and California who’d been asking him “What’s going on in Guntersville?” because of the issue.

Watkins did not respond following Helms’ comments.

Helms indicated his group had started a website opposing Watkins as a Councilman. Rains said she has retained an attorney.

While the meeting had just adjourned, the mayor and full Council were present as was the audience.

City attorney Dan Warnes said later the dispute has nothing to do with the city or the Council.
