Do you like to write stories or poetry? Do you like to go for walks along state and national park trails? Do you like to play card games? Would you like help in using your smart phone or laptop? If your answer to any of these questions is Yes then Guntersville Senior Center has four new programs for you.
Every week the Writers Group meets for one to two hours to share short works (one to three pages) of original work written by the members about topics selected by the group. Copies are shared by the group who offer suggestions for improvement from punctuation to grammar and content. The intent and goal is to help everyone become better writers. These writings can be fiction, non-fiction, children’s stories or poetry or haiku. The group coordinator is published author and former English tutor Louis F. Spagna (Lou).
This activity is not rock climbing or mountaineering but involves a gentle one day per week walk through nature as available in our local parks stopping along the way to photograph or just appreciate the flowers, trees, streams, waterfalls and animals along the way. Duration and distance of each walk will be determined by the walkers usually about four miles over a four hour time frame.
The Pinochle club meets once each week to play and teach the game. Some people refer to the game as ‘Bridge Light’ since it is similar to bridge but less complicated.
Many people have smart phones and laptops but have trouble getting to the functions they want or understanding what is needed and how to select it once they get there. This is called ‘Navigation.. Bring your device one day each week and we will help you step through the process until you are comfortable doing it on your own. We use a certain amount of group interaction and mostly one-on-one help.
If you re interested in any of the above activities please contact the center Director Reita T. Graham at 256-505-3000 or 256-505-3002 or reita.graham@guntersvilleal.org.
