15 and 14-year-old sisters DeZaray and Zakiya Richey and their club the Canvas Queens Girls Club are leading a drive to help kids who need school supplies. They’re seeking donations for the drive.
The supplies as well as a hot dog lunch will be given out on Sunday, July 31, from noon until 2 p.m. at the Guntersville Public Library Auditorium. The drive is for kids in grades K-5.
The girls are accepting donations through July 28. Items they need include:
• 24-count Crayola Classic crayons
• 8-count Crayola crayons
• Elmer’s purple glue sticks
• Wide-ruled notebook paper
• 12-count colored pencils
• Highlighters (assorted colors)
• 8-count washable markers
• Wide-ruled composition notebooks
You can get more information by visiting canvasqueens on Facebook or calling the girls’ mother Jamila Richey at 256-515-3609. You can email them at canvasqueenscq@gmail.com.
The Canvas Queens have a catchy slogan, a play on words. It is “We L.I.E., Lead, Inspire, empower.”
