Trees Coming Out

These trees in the park on Sunset Drive are coming out to make room for parking for the Optimist Park ballfield expansion.

The expansion of Optimist Park near the Guntersville Rec Center is just around the corner.

The City of Guntersville and the Guntersville Electric Board are teaming up to remove several pine trees adjacent to the permanent bathrooms near Optimist Park, Mayor Leigh Dollar said.

The work actually started this week, although it may be on hold for a bit until things dry up.

"The Electric Board is taking down the trees for us," Mayor Dollar said. "Then our crews will come in and remove the stumps."

The large pine trees being taken down all have blue ribbons on them.

Dollar said that area will become parking once the work is finished. There's one ball field in Optimist Park now. The Rec Center expansion plan calls for 3 fields to be placed there. Hence the need for more parking.

The city is facing in a park expansion plan with Optimist Park to be the first phase.
