The Guntersville Rec Center will host not one but 2 World Series youth baseball tournaments next summer.

Both are affiliated with the Dixie baseball organization.

The 15U Dixie Baseball World Series will be July 16-19, 2020, rec director Matt Bryant said. It could draw 15 to 20 teams and Bryant expects a crowd. “More families travel with the 15U teams,” he said. Guntersville hasn’t hosted this age group before.

The 17U Dixie Pre-Majors Wold Series will be July 25-28, 2020, with 11 state champion teams plus host team Guntersville. Guntersville hosted this series for 3 years from 2015-2017.

For now, these are one year deals, Bryant said. But Guntersville could win bids to host future World Series. Bryant said they will know more about that in time.

“It will be a big deal to have back-to-back World Series coming to town next summer, “ he said.

The city is working on a plan to upgrade its rec facilities. If that project starts before the World Series, work won’t begin on Bill Moore Field. That and Jim Whitaker Field at

(Continued on page 8) Guntersville High School will be the host fields for the 2020 tournaments.

“If we are to the point of renovating, Bill Moore Field will stay like it is through the World Series,” Bryant said. “The only difference would be some of the logistics with the gate and parking.”

The city continues to make progress on finding an architect for its rec renovation program.

“We’ve narrowed it down to 2 different groups,” Bryant said. “Once we get a final proposal from one of them, we will be moving on to the master planning stage.”
