Ann Marie (Sister) Guarino Batts' long fought battle is over. She has been called by the angels in heaven to be reunited with her families that have gone before.
From her giggle, to her gentle & caring disposition that made her so special, she will be missed by so many. This world has lost a beautiful person.
Ann is preceded in death by her grandparents, Gaspare & Antonia Pocopanni and Ferdinando & Anna Maria Guarino; and parents, Anthony “Tony” & Jenny Guarino.
She is survived by her loving husband, Phillip Batts. By marriage she was gifted with three children, Trevor Batts (Jan), Rhea Batts and Vincent Batts (Christy); six grandchildren, Anne Lisa, Gabriel, Ava, Magnus & Roald Batts and Taylor Neuman; nieces and nephews, Christie Tamburello (Danny), Melissa Guarino, Andrew Guarino (Nicole), Emily Guarino and George Guarino (Niki) and many cousins, aunts, uncles and other relatives and friends. She loved them all.
Ann’s capacity to love was a gift from God. She loved all her children that she taught for 25+ years in the Birmingham, St. Aloisius & Advent Episcopal Schools.
She spent most of her life in Birmingham and in recent years she enjoyed farm life in the Guntersville area. Ann was a masterful story teller, pretty good at calming her cows, gardening, feeding and catching fish. She was a member of Church of the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Guntersville.
A private family interment preceded her memorial services on Friday, May 31, at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial services followed at Cathedral Church of the Advent Episcopal Church, 2017 6th Ave. North, Birmingham, AL 35203.
A sincere “Thank You” goes to her friend Joyce Blackwood who has been at Ann’s side, caring & assisting her, the staff at Amedisys Hospice, and also to Dr. Richard Powers (UAB) who was always available during her difficult days.
