Carolyn Dews Keech died Tuesday, November 30, 2021, one day after her 87th birthday, with her nieces, Linda and Laura, by her side.
Her parents were Frances Barnes and Ira Guy (Buddy) Dews. She was born in Decatur, AL, and moved with her family to Guntersville in 1944 when her father was transferred by TVA to work at the Guntersville Dam.
Carolyn graduated from Marshall County High School and Jacksonville State University, earning a Master of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling. While attending Jacksonville State, she met her husband and love of her life, George Keech. During her marriage to George, Carolyn moved to many places as a devoted military wife. She and George met a whole host of lifelong friends during George’s military career.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Keech; her parents; and her two sisters, Frances Culbert and Suzanne Benjamin.
She is survived by nieces, Linda Stover, Laura Boggus, Carol Tucker, Mary Benjamin and nephews, Paul Keech, Charlie Keech, Keith Culbert and Charles Benjamin.
Carolyn was a lifelong educator, teaching in many locations across the country. She spent many years before retirement as a guidance counselor at Saks High School, mentoring many young people who remember her dearly as a true advocate.
After retirement, Carolyn returned to her beloved childhood home overlooking beautiful Lake Guntersville. Carolyn embraced life with a smile, she was an animal lover and devoted Aunt and friend.
Per her wishes, she will have a private, family only, memorial service.
