On Thursday, November 28, 2019, Cheryl Lee Latessa, loving sister, cousin and mother, passed away at the age of 72 due to complications from surgery and a brief illness. She leaves behind many friends and a family that loved her.
Cheryl was born in Akron, Ohio, on September 17, 1947, to Robert Julian Darling and Carolyn Elizabeth (Cooper) Darling. The family relocated to Euclid, Ohio, shortly thereafter. She met her ex-husband, Gene Latessa, while still in high school at Euclid Senior High. Cheryl and Gene shared many happy years while living in Kirkland, Ohio. She worked for many years at the Radix Wire Company in Euclid.
Cheryl relocated from her home in Mentor, Ohio, to the Atlanta area in 2005 to be nearer to her mother and brother, Ronald. In 2014, she moved to Guntersville to be closer to her cousin, Nancy Cooper Wells, to whom she was very close.
Cheryl enjoyed mahjong and cards with Nancy and her new friends. While in Guntersville, she rediscovered her interest in portrait painting and started Cheryl’s Pet Portraits. Cheryl had many dogs and cats throughout the years and had a special fondness for raccoons.
Cheryl is preceded in death by her loving son, Seth Latessa, and her parents. She is survived by her two brothers, Ronald James Darling of Loganville, Georgia, and Gary Dennis Darling of San Antonio, Texas, as well as many cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Nancy Cooper Wells, Richard Wells, Leigh Corfman and Linley Polston for the love, care and support they provided to Cheryl.
Her service will be held on Friday, January 17, 2020, at noon at Forrest Cemetery, 700 South 15th Street, Gadsden, Alabama.
In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests contributions to the Humane Society or your local animal shelter.
