Geraldine Wilder

Geraldine Otts Wilde of Guntersville passed away December 9, 2021, at the age of 98.

She was born in Fayette, Alabama, in 1923. She was one of 10 children of Isaac and Oda Fowler Otts.

After growing up on a farm, she became an airplane mechanic following her high school graduation, moving to Mobile, Alabama, to work at Brookley Air Force Base during World War II.

She met Navy Veteran John Wilder in Mobile and married in 1947. She then became a housewife and mother. The family moved to Guntersville in the late 1950’s after John’s transfer to the Arsenal in Huntsville. Geraldine devoted her entire life to raising her 5 children, and then assisting in the care of her grandchildren as well.

She was well known to the community as a wonderful cook, and her home was the center of many gatherings for her family and their friends. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, with regular attendance every Sunday at the Contemporary Service until the past few months. Her dedication to her family and church was an inspiration for all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughters Patricia Sawyer and Teresa Hunter (Andy); her son Phillip Wilder (Regina): her daughters in law Jeanene Wilder and Beth Wilder: her sisters Iris Roth and Nancy Sellers: 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Wilder, sons Michael Wilder and Danny Wilder, her parents, and 3 brothers and 4 sisters.

A graveside service was held at Marshall Memorial Gardens on December 12, 2021, led by Pastor Ricky Smith, and her grandson Pastor Michael Wilder. The family suggestS donations to First United Methodist Church or their Youth Ministry.
