Gregory Alan Johns, 70, passed away Thursday, November 10 at Shepherd’s Cove Hospice facility.

Greg was born July 2, 1952 in Talladega, Alabama to Carmon and Thelma Johns. Greg graduated from Talladega High School and the University of Alabama.

Greg was the Assistant Director and Director of the Guntersville Parks and Recreation Department for 6 years. He spent the remainder of his career with Mountain Lakes Behavioral Healthcare.

Greg enjoyed all sports. He played and coached tennis for years. He also bowled and was inducted into the Marshall County Bowling Hall of Fame in 2004. Greg also loved serving in various areas of his church, First Baptist Church of Guntersville.

Greg is survived by his wife of 48 years, Debra Mowery Johns; son Rev. Brandon (Mary Elizabeth) Johns; daughter Michele (Brian) Wilson; grandsons Hudson Johns, Asher Johns, and Carson Wilson; granddaughter JulieRose Wilson; brother Randy (Mary Ann) Johns; nieces Tinika Johns and Katina Kumar; and many cousins, and other family members.

Visitation was at First Baptist Church of Guntersville Monday, November 14. A memorial service followed. Burial was at Marshall Memorial Gardens.
