Jo Ann Parkhill Antwine of Grant passed away peacefully on June 24, 2021, at her home in Grant. She was surrounded by her greatest blessings, her family and friends.
Jo Ann was many things to many people over the years. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt and, most importantly to her, a grandmother.
She was born November 23, 1938, and was 82 years old. Joann was born and raised in Grant and attended DAR High school, where she graduated in 1957. She was close to all of her classmates and enjoyed attending alumni meetings each year.
Jo Ann and Mitchell (Mickey) Antwine were married on March 26, 1965. They were married in the chapel on the DAR School Campus. They were married for over 50 years.
Jo Ann enjoyed growing a garden with her parents and husband. They always had fresh vegetable to eat. They also froze and canned many vegetables. They also shared their vegetable with other people in the area. Jo Ann learned to sew during high school and made lots of her own and her children’s clothes. She also loved to play bingo when the schools had their festivals. She was very competitive and would play 10 or 12 cards at a time.
Joann worked and retired from Chrysler Automotive in Huntsville. She also held other different jobs such as at SCI and the 5 and Dime store in Guntersville.
She had 3 special friends who she kept in contact with even after she became too sick to get out and go places. They were Josie, Nellie Jo and Francis. She often spoke of them with great fondness. She also talked a lot to her cousin and good friend David and shared a love of fruit with him.
Visitation took place on Saturday, June 27. at Grant Memorial Chapel with the service immediately following. It was conducted by Bro. Rickey Beck. Burial followed at Free Home Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lucas Smith, Alex Smith, Adam Moore, Donnie Ayers, Doug Ayers, Brian Antwine, and Greg Franks.
She is survived by her son Clint Antwine (Brandy); daughter Andrea Hilliar (Jason); grandson Lucas; sister Shannon Franks (Greg); nieces Wanda Ayers, Racheal Franks, Laura Moore (Adam), Colleen Franks and Caroline Franks; and nephews, Jeff Ayers, Donnie Ayers and Doug Ayers.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mickey Antwine; her parents Fowler and Nellie Parkhill Ayers; and 3 brothers, Bobby Thomas Ayers, William Donald Ayers and Jerry Wayne Ayers.
