Mary Esta Walls Henson of Columbus City passed away January 13, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard Lewis Walls and Lois Barnard Walls of Columbus City, and her two sisters, Judy Walls Sims and Carmen Walls Wildhagen. She also has one living sister, Pat Walls Franklin of Sardis. She was married to Joe Dock Henson of Grant from 194 to 1980.
She had been ill for some time and living in Barfield Nursing Home since January 2020. The last weeks of her life were spent with several of her grandchildren and her two daughters, Pam Allison of Guntersville and Tina Carothers Drake of Fort Myers, Fla. She had 6 grandchildren, Paige Silas, Jacob Allison, Amber Carothers Haines, Erin Carothers May, Will Carothers, and Scott Carothers. She also had 9 great-grandchildren.
Mary was known by family and friends for her sense of humor. In 1954, she was voted wittiest of her graduating class from Marshall County High School. Many friends tell of her jokes and antics through all the years they knew her.
She was a Christian and worshipped at the Guntersville Church of Christ as long as her health permitted. Being an avid swimmer, one of her favorite things in life was teaching campers to swim at the Alabama Christian Youth Camp (Camp Neyati) during Guntersville’s camp sessions.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends said goodbye at a small graveside service directed by Grant Memorial Chapel. After COVID is more under control, the family is planning a special gathering of all who loved Mary for a time of photos and stories. Time to be set for summer 2021.
