Matthew Bishop will be remembered for his love of family and friends.
Matthew was born on March 19, 1984. He was a gift of God, born despite a 15% chance of a successful pregnancy, and he made it into his earthly home of 38 years.
Matthew was the beloved son of Tim and Peggy Bishop of Guntersville. He grew up in Albertville attending Albertville Schools. He was a member of Albertville First United Methodist Church.
At the early age of five, Matthew realized as a “lefty” he had a strong interest in baseball and golf. He loved baseball as his dad would coach for several years.
However, his passion for golf took center stage. As a high school freshman, he was on the Albertville High varsity golf team and represented Albertville at the state competition that year. He enjoyed playing at Gunter’s Landing and he aced hole number 3 more than once. He had his first “albatross” (a rare three under par in golf) in April 2010.
In 2002, Matthew attended Auburn University graduating with a BS degree in finance and marketing. He was a member of Signa Nu fraternity where he made lifelong friends.
After graduating from Auburn, he pursued a career in the health care industry.
He was with Cardinal Heath for several years and with AmerisourceBergen PPSC at the time of his death.
He loved Auburn and was an avid sports fan. Family and friends often told him he missed his calling because of his knowledge in the sports arena.
He and Sarah Asbury married on October 8, 2011, in Lexington, KY. They decided to go their separate ways in 2021 but remained close friends.
Matthew was preceded in death by grandparents Edna and Theo Lawrence and Mary Lou and Neal Bishop, great-aunt and great-uncle Margaret and Justin Ehman, and Uncle John Cox.
He is survived by his parents, Peggy and Tim Bishop; aunt Patsy Cox; cousin Justin Cox; and godparent Sue Appleton Dayton and godparent Stan Appleton.
